Sawadee will continue to operate under its existing name and brand, which is well-recognized in the Netherlands.
Sawadee was previously part of Travelopia, the world’s leading experiential travel company, with a unique platform for accelerating the growth and long-term success of specialist experiential travel brands. Travelopia’s portfolio includes market leading brands in polar expedition, active adventures, private jet tours, yacht and riverboat charter, golf tours, and high-end tailormade travel. It has over 2,500 employees, and sells in c125 source markets, to c140 destinations.
Intrepid Travel, headquartered in Melbourne, has been a world leader in responsible travel for 35 years, with a mission to create positive change through the joy of travel. Intrepid offers small group adventure tours in a range of styles and themes, and also has its own network of DMCs in 28 countries. The business is committed to transparency and ethical travel, having become B-Corp certified in 2018.
The acquisition will add €60m in revenue and an additional 20,000 customers per year to Intrepid, boosting EBITDA by an extra €3m. It will immediately make the Netherlands Intrepid’s fourth-largest source market (after Australia, the US, and the UK). Intrepid and Sawadee have enjoyed a successful working partnership since 2011. Intrepid DMC operates a number of Sawadee’s trips, delivering high-quality, locally focused, immersive travel experiences with a strong commitment to responsible travel.
